Heal the Bay is one of California’s most prominent and influential environmental conservation and advocacy groups, whose mission is “making southern California’s coastal waters and watersheds, including Santa Monica Bay, safe, healthy and clean.” The Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is HtB’s primary environmental education and outreach facility nestled at the base of the world-famous Santa Monica Pier.  AKB, in partnership with aquarium and LEED™ facility expert Scott Lewis, is leading an expansion feasibility study to assess the viability and strategic value of aquarium expansion.  Read More

EcoExploratorio – Museo de Ciencias de Puerto Rico: San Juan, PR

EcoExploratorio is an environmental science-based educational project currently under development. Kathleen is working with the founding Board, Division of Tourism and Convention Center and the University of Puerto Rico to develop the concept and development plan – which includes an intensive media/broadcast component – to bring Spanish-language environmental science education to the Caribbean basin.

Peralta Hacienda Historical Park; Oakland, CA

Peralta Hacienda is “the birthplace of Oakland,” the last remnant of the vast Spanish land grant of 44,500 acres in what is now the East Bay of San Francisco – encompassing the contemporary cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, Piedmont, Alameda and San Leandro. Kathleen is working with the staff and Board to produce a strategy and Business Plan to support daily operations through the reconstruction of the original adobe and other site elements as well as the implementation of a robust public program. Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert; Rancho Mirage, CA

CDMoD is a long-standing returning client of AKB, with whom Kathleen has worked on strategic project development and planning since 2002. Opening Phase 1 of redevelopment this fall – and coincidentally celebrating it’s 25th anniversary – this beautiful contemporary facility is now complemented by a park-like setting with outdoor exhibition and program spaces (including raised bed gardens) and a new exhibition pavilion especially geared toward older children.  Read More

Dignam Land is Canada’s oldest, largest and most respected raw land company, offering thousands of parcels across the vast expanse of the country. In anticipation of their 100th anniversary, Kathleen is devising an integrated media strategy that brings their on-line presence into relief and introduces elements of social media and networking to the long-standing and loyal customer base. Beginning with a major overhaul of its website (currently underway) and search engine compatibility/ visibility, we will gradually move the campaign in phases to culminate in a national celebration in 2016. Chabot is experimenting with new forms of community engagement and has created a concept called Open ScienceLAB. The first LAB project is HOWD (How do we decide what to believe?), intended to engage the expertise and creativity of a select group of scholars and professionals in exploring the intersection of belief formation based on scientific knowledge and informal science education.
